THIN SET STONE - NATURAL & CULTURED
"Thin set" stone is today's answer to affording that real stone look, either with real stone or fabricated cultured stone.
A viable alternative to real cut - natural stone these products are fabricated / cut in the factory.
Thin set stone is conducive to exterior & interior applications, fireplace facades, kitchen walls & backsplashes. Foundations are not necessary in most situations.
Although both the natural thin set & the cultured stone thin set are a reasonable facsimile of each other there are distinct differences to consider when purchasing these products.
Do your research, if this product isn't installed right leaking windows and doors can be a down the road result.
"Natural / Real Stone Thin Set" is just as it says, it's a real - natural stone that was cut & sawn into its shape, put in boxes & shipped on pallets. Each & every piece is uniquely different, although it being natural stone it has limitations to what a mason can do with it as for shaping & cutting it to develop any other pattern lay than what the manufacturer has already established.
So, it would be conducive to the lesser skilled craftsmen and any able body homeowner installing it. The finished appeal is that of the cut-natural / real stone work, costing 20 - 30% less than cut-natural stonework.
"Cultured Stone Thin Set" is a manufactured stone made of dyes & masonry products (cements). It is a very light weight product vs. the natural thin set, made of light weight aggregates and is usually installed from the top of the building downward so as not to drop cement droppings on the product.
Manufactured stone is cast into rubber molds, dried, packed into boxes & also shipped on pallets. Because this type of product is cast into molds the pattern is already determined by the manufacturer. It has a lot of repetitive pieces which enables more of a pattern to occur, so it can be done more expedient than the other types.
The finished appeal is pretty close to the real thing, an also conducive to the lesser skilled craftsmen and IT's cost is only 30% of what cut-natural stonework costs.
